Die Gruppenausstellung Das öffentliche Grün im Kunstmuseum Bochum widmet sich dem Bochumer Stadtpark, der dieses Jahr seinen 150. Geburtstag feiert. Als einer der ältesten öffentlich zugänglichen Parks im Ruhrgebiet wurde er 1876 auf dem Gelände der ehemaligen Allmende angelegt, dem gemeinschaftlich genutzten Acker- und Weideland der Stadt. Wo früher Kühe, Schafe und Ziegen weideten, wird heute flaniert, gespielt, geflirtet, geträumt und vieles mehr. Die Ausstellung wächst aus dem Museum hinaus in den Park, betrachtet ihn als vielschichtiges Biotop voller Geschichten und fragt, wie es heute um das Teilen von Raum und Ressourcen steht. Kann der Park auch heute noch als common land, als gemeinschaftliches Land gedacht werden, das uns als Stadtgesellschaft nährt? Und wo sind sie heute, die geteilten, gemeinsam verwalteten Ressourcen?
In den Ausstellungsräumen im Erdgeschoss des Kunstmuseums, die aufgrund der großen Fenster visuell mit dem Außenraum verbunden sind, bilden Neuproduktionen, Leihgaben und Werke aus der Sammlung eine Landschaft, die neben aller Euphorie auch Momente der Reibung in die Utopie Stadtpark bringt.

The group exhibition Das öffentliche Grün at the Kunstmuseum Bochum is dedicated to Bochum’s city park, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. One of the oldest publicly accessible parks in the Ruhr region, it was laid out in 1876 on the site of the former common land, the city’s collectively used farmland and pasture. Where cows, sheep and goats once grazed, people now stroll, play, flirt, dream and much more. The exhibition extends beyond the museum into the park, viewing it as a multi-layered biotope full of stories and asking how we share space and resources today. Can the park still be thought of as common land that nourishes us as an urban society? And where are the shared, jointly managed resources today?
In the exhibition rooms on the ground floor of the art museum, which are visually connected to the outside space thanks to their large windows, new productions, loans and works from the collection form a landscape that, despite all the euphoria, also brings moments of friction to the utopia of the city park.
