Über das Borderlands Residenzprogramm ist die Künstlerin Amauta García Oktober bis Dezember 2022 zu Gast beim Kunstmuseum Bochum. Ihre Arbeit basiert auf Skulptur, Video und Intervention im öffentlichen Raum. Inhaltlich beschäftigt sich García oft mit Fragen des Wohnens – ein komplexes Universum, das es ihr erlaubt, Themen von individuellen Ängsten und Wünschen bis hin zu sozialen und wirtschaftlichen Prozessen, zu erforschen. Dies tut sie aus einer dekolonialen Perspektive, die sich insbesondere mit indigenen Wissensbeständen mit Formen des Extraktivismus auseinandersetzt. Während ihrer Zeit in Bochum beschäftigt sie sich damit, wie die Ausbeutung von Böden mit Fragen des Wohnens und der Migration zusammenhängt. Darüber hinaus hat sie durch ihre Anbindung an das Kunstmuseum ein Interesse für dessen Sammlungsbestände gefunden. Im Rahmen des Künstlerinnengesprächs stellt Sie einige ihrer Projekte vor. Im Austausch mit Dr. Alexis Rodríguez Suárez spricht sie sie über die Fähigkeit von Kunst, Erzählungen hervorzubringen, die Unsichtbares sichtbar machen.

Through the Borderlands Residencies program, artist Amauta García will be a guest at Kunstmuseum Bochum October through December 2022. Her work is based on sculpture, video and intervention in public space. In terms of content, García often deals with issues of housing – a complex universe that allows her to explore topics ranging from individual fears and desires to social and economic processes. She does this from a decolonial perspective, particularly engaging indigenous bodies of knowledge with forms of extractivism. During her time in Bochum, she is concerned with how the exploitation of land relates to issues of housing and migration. In addition, she has found an interest in the Kunstmuseum’s collection holdings through her affiliation with the museum. During the artist talk, she will present some of her projects. In an exchange with Dr. Alexis Rodríguez Suárez, she talks about art’s ability to produce narratives that bring us closer to untold stories.
