Takako Saito: Von Sozo Biiku Undo über Fluxus zu Be Not Being Governed
Was macht die Arbeiten von Takako Saito so einzigartig und inspirierend? Dieser Vortrag lässt ihre aktive Beteiligung an der Sozo Biiku Undo Bewegung (創造美育運動 / „Creative Arts Education“) in der Präfektur Fukui in den 1950er-Jahren und die D.I.Y.-Geister in Resonanz mit der Fluxus-Bewegung Revue passieren, um zu untersuchen, wie sich Saitos interaktiven, autonomen und im Leben verwurzelten Kunstpraktiken entwickelt haben.
Der Vortrag dauert ca. 30 min. und findet auf Englisch statt. Im Anschluss gibt es Gelegenheit für Diskussion.
Vor dem Vortrag bieten wir außerdem eine Führung zur Ausstellung auf Japanisch mit Mariko Mikami an. Beginn 15 Uhr.
Mariko Mikami ist eine unabhängige Kuratorin, Projektmanagerin, Übersetzerin und Forscherin, die derzeit in Düsseldorf und Tokio lebt. Ihr Interesse gilt den transkulturellen Verflechtungen von Populärkulturen und Bürgerbewegungen sowie deren Funktionen für persönliche und soziale Autonomie, Ermächtigung und Entfremdung.

What makes Takako Saito’s works so unique and inspiring? This talk revisits her active involvement in the Sozo Biiku Undo (創造美育運動 /“Creative Arts Education“), in the Fukui Prefecture in the 1950s and the D.I.Y. spirits in resonance with the Fluxus movement to explore how Saito’s interactive, autonomous, and rooted-in-life art practices have evolved.
The lecture will last about 30 min. and will be held in English. Afterwards there will be an opportunity for discussion.
Before the lecture we also offer a guided tour of the exhibition in Japanese with Mariko Mikami. Start 3 pm.
Mariko Mikami is an independent curator, project manager, translator and researcher currently based in Düsseldorf and Tokyo. Her interest is in the transcultural interconnections of popular cultures and civil movements, as well as their functions in personal and social autonomy, empowerment, and alienation.
