Wo heute der Stadtpark ist, befand sich früher das gemeinschaftlich genutzte Weideland der Stadt. Auch wenn die Nutzung als Allmende Geschichte ist, lädt das Wissen um sie ein, sich heute eine gemeinschaftlich organisierte Zukunft vorzustellen, wie die Historikerin Silvia Federici betont: „Die “Allmende” stellt sich als Vorschein einer Welt dar, in der Güter geteilt werden und gesellschaftliche Beziehungen von der Solidarität zehren, nicht von dem Wunsch nach selbstsüchtiger Erweiterung.” In einem hybriden Gespräch zwischen Federici und der Autorin und Journalistin Mithu Sanyal wird die Geschichte der Bochumer Allmende in einen größeren Kontext eingeordnet. Warum ist es für die Arbeit an der Gegenwart und Zukunft wichtig, an die Geschichte der Allmenden zu erinnern? Was passiert, wenn wir die heutige Realität nicht als Selbstverständlichkeit nehmen, sondern das Teilen von Ressourcen? Wo sind die Gemeingüter der Gegenwart und warum lohnt sich der Kampf dafür?

Where the city park stands today, there used to be the city’s communal pastureland. Even though its use as a commons is a thing of the past, the knowledge of its existence invites us to imagine a collectively organised future today, as the historian Silvia Federici emphasises: “The ‘commons’ presents itself as a foreshadowing of a world in which goods are shared and social relations are sustained by solidarity, not by the desire for selfish expansion.” In a hybrid conversation between Federici and the author and journalist Mithu Sanyal, the history of the Bochum commons is placed within a broader context. Why is it important for our work on the present and the future to remember the history of the commons? What happens if we do not take today’s reality for granted, but instead focus on the sharing of resources? Where are the commons of the present, and why is it worth fighting for them?
